Us. We understand that clients would like to be assured that
therapy will be tailored specifically for them and that they will
feel comfortable with their therapist. Each of us is a licensed
clinical psychologist in the state of New York, and we all have
experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds with a

Christiane Humke, Ph.D. (Ph.D.,
Fairleigh Dickinson University) received specialized training
in cognitive behavioral therapy through her work at North Shore
University Hospital-Cornell Medical College and through a post-doctoral
fellowship at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy. Dr.
Humke has extensive experience in the treatment of depression
and anxiety disorders (including Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive
Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder). She helps individuals
cope effectively with chronic illness, and has conducted workshops
with breast cancer patients. In addition, she addresses work-related
problems and career issues. She has complemented her clinical
work with research on factors relevant to the treatment of obsessive-compulsive
disorder, adjustment issues in cancer patients and alcohol dependence.
Dr. Humke has supervised doctoral students, psychiatry residents,
and post-doctoral fellows in the cognitive behavioral treatment
of patients, and provides consultation for licensed professionals.
She was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical and Counseling
Psychology at Columbia University, where she taught the advanced
doctoral-level course on cognitive behavioral therapy. She also
held a faculty position as a Clinical Instructor at New York University
Medical School. Dr. Humke is one of the Founding Fellows of the
Academy of Cognitive Therapy.

Nicole Schaffer, Ph.D. Dr. Schaffer
received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, her M.A.,
and Ed.M. from Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in clinical
health psychology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine
and Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral
internship as well as a research post-doctoral fellowship at the
Yale University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry,
followed by a clinical post-doctoral fellowship at the American
Institute for Cognitive Therapy, New York. Dr. Schaffer has extensive
experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders,
chemical dependency/addictions, stress management, chronic health-related
issues and eating disorders. She has published a number of papers
and co-authored several books on weight-control and obesity, receiving
the American Medical Writers Book Award in 1998. Dr. Schaffer
has been involved in neuropsychiatric research at the Yale University
School of Medicine and has worked extensively with psychiatric
in-patients. Previously, Dr. Schaffer taught graduate students
at Teachers College, Columbia University from 1994-2000 in addition
to training first year medical students at the Albert Einstein
College of Medicine.

Michael Friedman, Ph.D. Dr. Friedman
received his B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, and his
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Yale University. He completed
his predoctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Brown
University School of Medicine. Dr. Friedman has extensive experience
in the treatment of depression, eating and weight disorders, anxiety
disorders, couples distress and chronic disease management. He
has received awards for his clinical research from the Association
for the Advancement of Cognitive and Behavior Therapy, as well
as from the Society for Behavioral Medicine. His research on the
development of cognitive-behavioral treatments for depression
has received grant funding from the National Institute for Health
and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression.
Dr. Friedman currently serves on the Clinical Board of the American
Board of Mental Health Specialists. He is also on the advisory
board for FAN4KIDS, a non-profit organization that develops obesity
interventions and is an appointed member of The New Jersey
Governor's Obesity Task Force.
